CIVICES, If the services of any class of people are least recognised in our country, they are the bureaucrats. The favoured few are exceptions. Their services for development, however meagre, were not viewed as meritorious social services. Photos and portraits of many national heroes are preserved or maintained in the Government House. But not a single photo or portrait of any bureaucrat has found place there. Photos of teachers and journalists killed at random in March 1971 for their being intellectuals are printed in the periodicals and newspapers. But photos of bureaucrats like Mamun Mahmud PSP, DIG Rajshahi, Nurul Amin CSP, DC Barisal, A. K. M. Shamsul Huq Khan CSP, DC Comilla, Shah Abdul Majid PSP, SP Rajshahi, Shamsul Huq PSP, SP Chittagong, Munshi Kahibirudding SP Comilla, Shamsuddin Ahmad CSP, SDO Serajganj, Abdul Ali, SDO Rangamati killed for active contribution during the crackdown of 1971 do not find place in the newspapers in the month of December or March in any year. These officers had exceptionally brilliant academic careers.
