There occurred an unprecedented flood in Bangladesh in 1987. And the Agriculture Sector Team of the Canadian International Development Agency sought my services to study the hydromorphological aspects of this natural disaster. I am most grateful to Mr. M. Anisuzzaman and Mr. K. M. Ejazul Huq. former Secretary, and Joint Secretary respectively of the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of Bangladesh for having suggested my name to the AST/CIDA and also to Dr. Ali Mohammad, Director, AST/CIDA for entrusting me with this task. More so, because, for quite sometime in the past, I was looking for financial support to do investigation of floods in our country, Assignment of analysing the 1987-flood gave me an opportunity to do, at least, part of the job, I have been seeking to accomplish. In this work, I believe, I have fully treated the hydromorphological parameters of the food and have analysed the probable causes of this calamitous event.
