I heard from my mother. that I was born on an auspicious day, Friday the 10th November. 1933, in the cosmopolitan city of Calcutta during the British Colonial days in India. My mother was suffering from acute asthma and had enlargement of the heart and suffered from edema in the legs. My arrival was very much unscheduled, and I arrived as a tiny baby, couple of months prematurely. The tiny baby grew up to be a young man, tallest amongst all the family members at six feet two and a half inches. My father Dr.M.Qudrat-i-Khuda started his career in the Presidency College, Calcutta after coming back from England with his D.Sc degree, one of the first of that time and still now the first amongst the Muslims. I am told that he had a grand mass reception awaiting him on his return from England in 1929. My grandfather Hazrat Abdul Muquit was one the first Muslim graduates of the time, but refused to keep a job under the colonial masters.
