An Expatriate is a social novel in true sense. It depicts the passage of an expatriate's life living in Qatar. Shams Taher left the country and joined an educational institute located in Qatar as a lecturer in English. He thought to himself that teachers in native country were victims of financial crisis to face the challenges in life while teaching in the State of Qatar seemed to him the rarest opportunity of achievement for money and dignity. Apart from that, he dreamt of mingling with natives of Arabian Peninsula, migratory tribes and foreigners living in Doha, the capital in view of enhancing knowledge on demographics of Qatar. He faced various obstacles while living in Qatar due to dirty politics of community-expatriates. In the novel, it has been revealed that teachers in his native country are almost uncared and neglected while teachers working in abroad are highly respected in term of salary and status. He thought that he was mistaken to find a new fortune in Qatar because of his choice working with Bangladeshi community. His hopes and aspirations remained unfulfilled and at the end, he returned home and he found peace in his motherland, the beautiful Bangladesh.
