এম হারুনুর রশিদ (M. Harunur Rashid)

M Harunur Rashid (born December 28, 1939) is a distinguished teacher of English literature and language, a notable educational administrator, editor and translator of modern poetry and prose, in Bangladesh. He is a noted commentator of social, political, cultural scene and literary texts. Educated at Dhaka University and Cambridge University (UK) Professor Rashid has taught English literature and language for over 50 years at Dhaka College, Chittagong University, Jahangirnagar University and, on voluntary retirement, at North South University. As an academic he enjoys translating from other languages and teaching translation courses. He has translated a number of books of contemporary Bangladesh poetry into English. As an educational administrator, he served, Bangla Academy for four years with commendable success. Professor Rashid was elected President of WUS International Geneva 1984-86) and President of Asiatic Society of Bangladesh (1998). He was appointed President of Bangla Academy in 2007. He has an interest in conservation and preservation of eco-system and was elected President of Wild Team, Bangladesh in 2015. Professor Rashid has visited the States on International Visitors' Programme. He has also visited the Islamic Republic of Iran on government invitation.
